Portable garages – flexible shelter for vehicles and equipment

A portable garage gives you covered space for a car, motorcycle, trailer or equipment without building a conventional garage. Dancover’s range includes garage tents in several sizes and folding garages that can be opened over a parked vehicle.

The right choice depends on what you need to shelter, how often you need access and where the garage will stand. Start by measuring your vehicle, then consider the entrance, cover material and conditions at the installation site.

Which type of portable garage suits your needs?

Small garage tents are worth considering for motorcycles, bicycles, ride-on mowers and other equipment. They take up less space, but make sure there is room to get your vehicle or machinery through the entrance and move around it.

Medium garage tents offer more space for a car or trailer. If you need to open car doors comfortably, store equipment alongside the vehicle or accommodate something larger, compare the dimensions of the large garage tents. Choosing extra space can make a noticeable difference when you use the garage regularly.

A folding garage, such as a FleX Carcover, works differently. Its cover folds back to give access to the parked car or motorcycle. This can be convenient when you want to cover and uncover a vehicle frequently. Check the specifications and intended use of the individual model before choosing one.

Check the vehicle, entrance and available space

Measure your vehicle’s length, width and height, including mirrors, roof racks or other fitted equipment. Compare these measurements with both the garage’s internal dimensions and its entrance. A garage may have enough floor space but still be difficult to use if the opening is too narrow or low.

Think about what happens after you park. Will you need to open the doors, walk around the vehicle or reach tools stored beside it? Measure the installation area too, allowing space for the structure, its anchoring and access to the entrance.

Compare covers and features by model

Garage tents in the range include models with PE and PVC covers. Frame construction, cover weight, door design and included equipment vary, so check the product details rather than choosing by size alone.

Some models include a ground cover, while for others one may be available separately. A ground cover can help keep dirt and moisture from the ground away from stored items. A portable garage is not an insulated or climate-controlled space, however, and condensation can still form as temperature and humidity change. Keep ventilation in mind and check stored equipment regularly, particularly during longer periods of storage.

Prepare a suitable site and anchor the garage

Choose a firm, level site and follow the assembly and anchoring instructions for your model. The appropriate fixings depend on the structure and the surface beneath it. Check what is included and whether additional anchoring equipment is needed before you begin.

Inspect the cover, frame and anchors regularly, especially after windy weather. Do not assume that every portable garage can withstand a specified wind speed or carry a snow load. Follow the weather guidance for the individual product and remove accumulated snow when the instructions require it.

If you plan to install a larger structure or leave it in place for an extended period, check whether local planning requirements apply.

When is another storage solution a better fit?

If you need substantial covered space for machinery, materials or stock, explore the wider range of storage tents and shelters. For a more permanent vehicle storage solution, compare the metal garages.

The best portable garage is one that fits what you want to store, gives you enough room to use it comfortably and can be anchored properly at your chosen site.
